Memorial Day Beer
I fired up the brew kettle today. First off, I calibrated the new kettle - which I somehow messed up last time. Also it appears that the Supply Store is phasing out the Wyeast Propagator yeast that I had been using in favor of the more hearty Activator slap packs. So we will give that a try for a few bucks more. Also I had broken my floating thermometer during the last batch, so I got a new one of those along with a new siphon hose - the old one was getting pretty gross looking! And instead of the Fuggles plugs that I had been using for finishing, I stocked up on some Hallertau instead.

For today we did:

7.0 lbs Pale Malt Extract
2 lbs. Ground Weyermann's Carafoam Crystal Malt
6.0 - 7.0 Gallons of Water
1.5 ounces of Challenger Hops (10.1%) Boiling
0.5 ounce of Hallertau Plugs Hops (5.0%) Finishing
Wyeast 1007 German Ale Yeast

Specific Gravity: 1.051

Update June 8 - Due to the trip last weekend I was not able to rack this batch. Today earlier than today. Specific Gravtiy at 1.013. So I stuck a Hallertau plug in there for a couple of hours and then bottled this one up.
